Extravaganza: think Science fair, but any subject applies
This year Hannah took a different path with her Extravaganza Project, she studied her Great-Grandmothers life. She found that so much more interesting than carnations soaking up colored water or volcanos or famous tourist location. Here is her written Report:
Junee Bal-Baby
The topic I chose is my great grandma’s life. I chose this topic because I thought it would be very interesting to learn about some of my family history. First I had to interview her so I went over to her house with my Dad. We spent about two hours their asking her questions and then she sent a bunch of photographs, journals and letters which I read through and made notes. I had a great time learning about her. Here is what I learned:
Lenore June Larsen Monson also known as Junee Bal-Baby (That’s her nick name) was born in Whitney, Idaho on her parents farm June 13, 1921. She weighed seven pounds. Her hair was blond and her eyes were blue and they still are. How she got the nick name Junee Bal-Baby is when she was a little baby she would cry all the time and so her dad started calling her that. I don’t think she liked that nickname very much.
When my Grandma was 6 months old she got pneumonia. Back then it was called erysipelas. Her dad had to chase down the nurse in a horse and buggy and even in a blizzard. When her dad finally caught up with the nurse he led her to their home. When they arrived she was near to dying. Then the nurse got Lenore to cough and that is what saved her life. They were very thankful to have her still there.
When she was five years old her dad went on a trip. Her parents were farmers so they hired someone to help take care of the farm. The guy they hired lived on one side of their house. Sooner or later the pig pens needed to be cleaned but for some reason the man they hired didn’t clean them so my grandma’s mom fired him and cleaned them herself. My grandma’s mom was a very hard working and stubborn woman. She came to the United States from Germany and made a good life for her family.
When my Grandma was a young girl she was a little reader. She would read any thing she could get her hands on. Her mom would ask her to come do something and she would say, “one minute” then 10 min. later she would still be reading. She also loved to hear her Mom tell her stories. She remembers her mom telling her stories like Hansel and Grettle or The Little Rabbit Who Wanted Wings. She also loved spending time with her friends. At night she and her friends would play Kick the Can or Hide and Seek. She was also allowed to occasionally have sleepovers.
My Grandma loves art of all kinds. Of all the different things you can do with art her favorite is painting. Now that she is getting older she has a hard time painting and she really misses it. She used to buy and paint Christmas ornaments for all of her grandchildren. Another creative thing my Grandma loves to do is write. When she was a youth she would write plays. She would write them and also direct them for her church and also for her High School. She was very proud of the time when she was able to draw the front cover of a program for one of her plays. One of the things she hated doing as a kid was the dishes. I think any one as a kid does hate doing the dishes.
In 1941 she got married to Nolan Monson. Shortly after their Marriage Nolan was drafted into the Army to serve in World War II. My grandma had two children at the time and they went to live with her parents. When Nolan got out of the military they farmed in Utah and eventually moved to a farm north of Pasco. Together they had seven wonderful children who were all raised on this farm. Their names are Alaine, Karla, Scott, Luetta, Wayne, Stewart, and Ed. It soon came to be that they all grew up and had there own families.
When Nolan was 76 he had a heart disease called aortic rupture. They couldn’t get him to the hospital in time so he died. He died very quickly. My dad didn’t even know it had happened until after he had died.
Today my great grandma lives in Pasco in a very nice house with two of her daughters Alaine and Luetta. Alaine has Down syndrome. Down Syndrome is where you like things that are for younger kids. She still likes to color and watch cartoons.
In conclusion I learned a lot about my great grandma’s life. My great grandma is currently 85 and wishes to live till she’s 106. I love her very, very much. They get lonely so my family goes over and visits with them. We are usually over there for a hour or more. This topic was very, very interesting and I am glad I chose it.

Congrats to Josh and Renae!!!
I saw this picture on Josh's facebook page, so I thought that I would post that Josh and Renae had their beautiful baby girl. Lily Monson (I love the name!), a few days ago. I'm not really sure of all the details. But I wanted to write Congratulations to Josh and Renae and their beautiful new little girl!

Easter Hunt!!
Mark, myself and our 3 children made our way up to Eldon and Stephenie's annual Easter Egg Hunt. There was several people there for this wonderful event. Everyone had a fabulous time. It was really nice to visit with them, and Lance and Brianna, Teresa's family and I got to see Danae and Laurie for a bit too. I was sad to hear that Melissa and Aiden left a couple of hours before though. Thanks Eldon and Steph for everything! We had a great visit with you guys! I feel very happy that I only live a couple of hours away, so I can visit with you guys more often. Here are some of my favorites of the pictures that I took that day.

LOVE ME , Leave me
So this year, Wayne and Julie's grandkids received matching Christmas gifts. With the help of Melissa and Denae, these adorable T-Shirts were created for the kids. Many of us gathered recently at Laurie's for Christmas dinner and had the kids pose for this photo. I think you'll all agree that it is indeed precious.

A visit to Grandma and Luetta's
We had a blast visiting with Grandma, Luetta and Alaine, and my Mom and Brother Tom. We loved spending time with them over night and chatting for a whil
e. It was lots of Fun!! :)
A surprise visit!
We had a blast having Scott, Tyler, Kiley and Brett stop by for a bit to visit. They were at our Stake Conference, here visiting Debbie's brother's family (they have a neat haunted house here), and were going to get in touch with us and Scott & kids were sitting right in front of Mark and my kids at conference (Kate and I haven't returned to church yet, since she's still so tiny)!! So they came by to visit with us after church. We loved hearing about their upcoming events. Josh & Renae are pregnant and due in April, Andrew is coming home from his mission to Mexico in the beginning of December and Tyler is going on his mission at the end of December to Minnesota (the same place where Scott served!)

Exciting News for Kyle and Kristin
Kristin asked me to share some exciting news with everyone. Kyle just accepted a job as a programmer for a gaming company in Seattle and they will be moving up there early November. Also they are expecting their third baby in June! Congrats to Kyle and Kristin!

A Quick Trip
We had a very quick and fun trip this weekend that I wanted to share. Saturday morning was full of soccer games, (Grant) coaching, soccer pictures, and a dance performance so we couldn't leave until Saturday night. We didn't arrive in La Grande until after midnight. The next morning we woke up at 8:00 for Kate's baby blessing at 9:00 am. Then we went to Mark's sister's baby's blessing. After the blessing, we went and saw Liz and Mark's new unfinished house and Mark's brother's new finished house. (If you didn't know, Grant grew up with Mark and his family.) Then we went back to Mark's family's house, who so kindly let us stay there. We packed our things and they had a big luncheon there. We left and took my Mom over to Grandma, Luetta, and Alaines'. We had such a wonderful visit with them and we didn't want to leave. However, Grant teaches early morning seminary so we did leave. We arrived after midnight. It was exhausting! But I am so glad we went! We had such an amazing yet quick trip. :) PS- Isn't that picture of Alaine with Aurora so adorable!?! I love it!
